When a factory tests a product, they test it on day one. The box is brand new. The rubber seals are absolutely perfect. But real life is a lot more brutal than a clean testing lab.
Fast forward three years. Your box has been baking in the sun and freezing in the snow. The steel might hold up, but what happens to the seals? Standard rubber gaskets (especially nitrile or Buna-N) degrade in prolonged UV and ozone exposure after 3 to 5 years. The gasket loses its elastic memory, meaning it fails to bounce back to its original shape when the door opens and closes.
