Custom NEMA Enclosures
Material certification, IP66/67 compliance, and 100% dimensional inspection for OEMs and Industrial Automation.
Why Force Your Proprietary Tech into a Standard Box?
You’ve invested hundreds of hours optimizing your PCB layout and component density. Don’t negate that efficiency by settling for a standard enclosure. A catalog box forces you to compromise precision for a clumsy fit.
Catalog giants like Hoffman or Saginaw offer excellent generic products, but unlike ShincoFab, they lack insight into your specific application. When you are dealing with restricted machinery footprints or non-standard mounting requirements, relying on fixed catalog dimensions becomes a liability.
The ShincoFab Custom Advantage
Your Data Drives Production
Forget browsing PDFs for part numbers. We fabricate directly from your STEP or DXF files. If your design requires a 14.5″ width to fit a specific machine cavity, we build it to exactly 14.5″ instead of forcing you into a 16″ standard that requires a redesign.
Total NEMA Spectrum
Whether you need a simple NEMA 1 mild steel junction box with custom rectangular knockouts, or a fully TIG-welded NEMA 4XÂ 316L Stainless Steel cabinet for high-pressure washdown environments, we handle it.
Single-Source Responsibility
We are not a broker. We control the entire fabrication chain in-house, including laser cutting, bending, welding, and gasketing. This ensures the final product matches your CAD model, down to the last millimeter.

True DFM Analysis Means We Optimize Instead of Just Cutting
Sending us a file isn’t just an order entry, it’s the start of a design review. We catch tolerance stack-ups and collision points before they hit the factory floor.
Native CAD Compatibility
We don’t rely on PDF sketches. We work directly with your native engineering files to ensure the final product matches your design intent 100%. We accept and process:
- SolidWorks (.sldprt, .sldasm)
- AutoCAD (.dwg, .dxf)
- STEP / IGES (Universal 3D formats)
Note: We verify bend radii and k-factors against our specific tooling inventory to prevent unexpected dimensional shifts.
Thermal Management Integration
An enclosure is useless if it cooks the components inside. We adhere strictly to your thermal dissipation requirements.
- Precision Cutouts: Laser-cut openings for filter fans, A/C units, or heat exchangers (compatible with Rittal, Pfannenberg, etc.).
- Airflow Logic:Â We can suggest or implement louvers and venting patterns that maximize convection without compromising NEMA/IP ratings.
Hardware & Fastener Integrity
A loose standoff means a failed PCB. We treat hardware insertion as a critical process, not an afterthought.
- Automated Insertion: Using Haeger insertion presses with automatic feed, we ensure every PEM® nut, stud, and standoff is seated with the correct hydraulic pressure.
- Rigidity Guarantee: We verify push-out and torque-out forces. Your standoffs will remain rigid and perpendicular during component assembly to prevent fastener rotation.
Precision Under Pressure Defines Our Fabrication Arsenal
From rapid laser cutting to certified TIG welding, ShincoFab deploy industry-leading technology to ensure every enclosure meets strict dimensional tolerances.
Primary Cutting Means Oxide-Free Laser Precision
Clean edges mean better welds and stronger paint adhesion. We utilize Trumpf TruLaser (or Amada/Bystronic, please specify yours here) centers.
- Capacity: High-pressure nitrogen cutting eliminates oxide layers on Stainless Steel edges, ensuring immediate weld readiness without secondary grinding.
- Speed & Accuracy:Â capable of maintaining +/- 0.05mm positioning accuracy even on complex perforated patterns or dense ventilation arrays.
CNC Forming Guarantees Repeatable Bending Every Time
Manual brakes rely on operator feel; ours rely on computer-controlled back gauges.
- Equipment: Amada HFE / Trumpf TruBend Series CNC Press Brakes.
- The Promise: 6-axis back gauging ensures multi-bend sequences are executed with a +/- 0.5-degree angular tolerance. Your door flanges will align perfectly, preventing gasket gaps and IP rating failures.
Certified Welding & Finishing
This is where craftsmanship meets compliance. Robotics do the heavy lifting, certified artisans do the critical sealing.
- Standards: Our team includes welders certified to AWS D1.6 (Structural Stainless Steel) and AWS D1.3 (Sheet Steel).
- NEMA 4/4X Integrity: Full TIG welding on all seams creates a continuous, water-tight barrier.
- Sanitary Finish: All external welds are ground smooth and polished to match a #4 Brushed Finish, critical for food processing and pharmaceutical applications (eliminating bacteria traps).
Audit-Ready Quality Assurance Ensures Nothing Leaves Without Proof
Minimize supply chain risk. Our QC protocol documents every step from raw material intake to final paint thickness.
Material Traceability Lets You Know Your Source
We don’t buy mystery metal.
- Mill Test Reports (MTRs): Available for all raw materials (Stainless Steel, Aluminum, CRS) upon request. We verify chemical composition and mechanical properties against ASTM standards.
- Lot Control:Â Every sheet is tracked by heat number through the entire fabrication process. If a recall ever happens (it won’t), we know exactly which batch was used.
Mandatory Testing & Validation
Visual appearance alone is not a valid quality standard
- Leak Testing: All NEMA 4/4X custom enclosures undergo water ingress testing (spray or submersion) before shipping to validate seam integrity.
- Paint Thickness: We measure powder coat thickness using digital gauges to ensure 2.0-3.0 mils coverage (or your specific spec), preventing premature corrosion.
- Hardware Verification:Â 100% torque check on critical PEM fasteners and ground studs.
Documentation Creates The Essential Paper Trail
We provide the data your Quality Engineer demands.
- First Article Inspection (FAI): Detailed dimensional reports provided with every new part number launch. We don’t proceed to production until you sign off on the first piece.
- Certificate of Conformance (CoC):Â Shipments arrive with a CoC certifying adherence to your drawing revision and PO requirements.
Two Paths to Your Perfect Enclosure
Whether you need a quick modification to a stock box or a ground-up design for a proprietary machine, we have a dedicated workflow for you.
Option A: Enclosure Modification
Best for: Prototypes, low-volume runs, or standard NEMA applications with unique I/O requirements.
- The Process: We take a standard off-the-shelf enclosure (Hoffman, Hammond, etc.) and precision-machine it to your specs.
- What We Do: Laser drilling, tapping, rectangular cutouts for HMIs/Fans, and installing custom back-panels.
- The Advantage: No tooling costs. 3-5 Day Typical Turnaround after drawing approval.
- Ideal Quantity:Â 1 – 50 units.
Option B: Full Custom Fabrication
Best for: OEM production runs, restricted footprints, special materials, or branding integration.
- The Process: We fabricate from raw sheet metal (Stainless, Aluminum, Carbon Steel) to your exact CAD file.
- What We Do: infinite size possibilities (e.g., 14.5″ x 22.1″ x 6.0″), custom paint colors, silkscreening/branding, special forming/welding, and integrated consoles.
- The Advantage: Perfect fit for your component layout. Economy of scale for larger runs.
- Ideal Quantity:Â 50+ units (or high-value singles).
Solving What Standard Boxes Couldn't Through Real-World Applications
Case A: The Sanitary Washdown Nightmare
Application:Â Automation Controls for a Meat Processing Conveyor Line.
The Challenge:Â Daily high-pressure (1200 PSI) caustic chemical washdowns were forcing water past the standard polyurethane gaskets of off-the-shelf NEMA 4 boxes, corroding internal PLCs within months. Flat tops allowed water pooling.
The Custom Solution: A fully welded 316L Stainless Steel NEMA 4XÂ enclosure featuring:
- 20-degree Sloped Roof:Â Prevents water pooling and bacterial growth.
- Silicone Gasketing: Chemical-resistant seal rated for high-pH cleaners.
- Internal Drip Shield: Protects door-mounted components from condensation.Â
Result:Â Zero water ingress failures in 24 months of operation.
Case B: The Restricted Footprint Retrofit
Application:Â HMI Console for a Legacy CNC Machine Upgrade.
The Challenge:Â The customer needed to fit a modern 15″ touchscreen and PC into an existing machine cavity with only 8″ of depth available. Standard 16″ deep consoles protruded into the operator walkway, creating a safety hazard.
The Custom Solution: A low-profile Configured Console fabricated from 14GA Carbon Steel.
- Custom Depth: Engineered to exactly 7.5″ depth to sit flush with the machine frame.
- Thermal Design:Â Integrated side-venting louvers (instead of rear fans) to allow airflow despite the tight wall mounting.
Result:Â Operational safety restored; ergonomic upgrade completed without facility layout changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Direct answers about our capabilities, lead times, and pricing structure to help you make an informed decision.
What is your Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)? Can I order a single prototype?
We do not have a strict MOQ. We serve High-Mix/Low-Volume (HMLV) customers regularly. However, pricing relies heavily on setup times. A single custom unit will carry a higher per-unit cost than a batch of 50 due to NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) and machine setup. We recommend ordering a First Article Prototype to validate fit before releasing a full production run.
I don't have a 3D CAD file yet, only a 2D PDF or a sketch. Can you still quote?
Yes, but it may delay the process. For the fastest quote (within 24 hours), a .STEP or SolidWorks file is preferred because it allows our software to automatically calculate cutting paths and material usage. If you only have a PDF or sketch, our engineering team will need to create the 3D model for you, which may incur a nominal design fee depending on complexity.
Will my custom enclosure come with a UL Label?
Yes, upon request. We are a UL 508A Listed panel shop. As long as your custom design adheres to the specific construction requirements for NEMA 1, 3R, 4, 4X, or 12 (e.g., proper material thickness, seam welding, gasket type), we can apply the official cULus label to your enclosure, ensuring your project passes site inspection.
How do I choose between 304 and 316L Stainless Steel?
This depends on your environment.
- Grade 304: The industry standard for indoor washdown (Food & Bev) and general corrosion resistance.
- Grade 316L: Mandatory for marine environments, outdoor applications near saltwater, or pharmaceutical processes using harsh chlorides/acids. It contains Molybdenum for superior pitting resistance.
If you are unsure, specify your chemical exposure in the RFQ, and our metallurgists will recommend the grade.
What is the typical lead time for a custom NEMA enclosure?
- Standard Modifications: (Drilling/Cutting stock boxes): 3-5 business days after drawing approval.
- Full Custom Fabrication: Typically 2-3 weeks for standard finishes (Powder Coat).
- Expedited Services: Available for critical downtime situations. Please mark URGENT in your RFQ subject line.
Why should I customize instead of just modifying a Hoffman box myself?**
Risk and Total Cost of Ownership. Modifying a finished box yourself often voids the UL/NEMA rating (paint chips lead to rust). It also requires manual labor that is prone to error. Our laser-cut custom enclosures guarantee hole precision to +/- 0.1mm and maintain full NEMA integrity. They arrive ready for assembly, saving your technicians hours of drill-press time.
